Developing Diverse Talent for Surrey and Sussex Police

What a day, open and honest discussion and a buzz that lasted all day. Even at the end of the day, groups of people were still talking about the day. Great support from the admin team, and thanks to the mentors and line managers who attended. All the delegates were good sports, even when it came to the Bamboo stick exercise (above). Feedback from delegates has been exceptional.

Deep Insight was delighted to have started a new and bespoke leadership programme that enhances professional development and empowers individuals from ethnically diverse and under-represented groups to achieve their career plans.

This new and existing program retains the previous programme name, Professional Action Learning Sets (PALs); however it’s radically different in its design and delivery. Six workshops are spread over a 7-month period, which will equip participants with the knowledge, tools and strategies to overcome barriers, to thrive in leadership roles, and contribute to building an inclusive police organisation.

Apart from the workshops, the programme includes EQi coaching, mentoring, Wicked Problem Assignment and a CMI qualification. The first workshop was held on the 20th of February 2024 in Crawley with 18 delegates. The day was filled with fun activities that helped career pathways. We have cemented our mission that 'Brave Organisations have Courageous Conversations' – the delegates certainly did that and more. Providing a safe space to speak is imperative in cultivating and instilling personal leadership confidence.

The involvement and support from the Surrey and Sussex chief officer teams reflects a collaborative effort towards creating a diverse and inclusive environment within the police force, fostering opportunities for all individuals.

Deep Insight's dedication to promoting Positive Action programs in private and public sectors is impressive. We have influenced and provided senior consultancy for the Police Uplift Programme and GMP Developing Diverse Leaders and are working to increase representation on publicly appointed Welsh boards.

Please reach out if you would like to have a non-commitment professional discussion on developing diverse leaders.
